Do we eat our own dog food?

“Do you eat your own dog food?”

For those who have worked in the corporate world the phrase ‘eating your own dog food’ probably sends a shiver down the spine. But more than being an irritating business phrase it’s a question we actually get asked a lot. It’s usually done in a light-hearted way but there’s still something in the question. I guess what’s lurking below the surface are questions like – is it any good? Do you back what you’ve made? If you’re going to feed it to your dog, would you feed it to yourself?

Well… do you!?

In short, yes. We do eat our own dog food. Not every day of course (before you ask, dogs and humans have different nutritional needs) but we’ve tasted it in the development process and have no qualms about eating it. Funnily enough, we’re not the only ones! I’ve been contact by customers whose dogs love our food to let us know how well it’s going down and that they’ve tried it themselves. You’ll be pleased to know they thought it tasted good! (as do I).

But why!?

It’s simple really. We’re happy to eat our own dog food as knowing what goes in it and how it’s made, there’s no reason why we wouldn’t:

  • The meat we use is human grade – our meat comes from human food production. Once the parts intended for human consumption are removed, we use the valuable and nutritious meat that remains. 80% of our meat is fresh with 20% frozen to account for unavoidable seasonal variance in supply. This not only reduces impact on the planet but ensures your dog gets the delicious, nutritious food they deserve.
  • We never use cheap, low-quality alternatives like meat meal – these are made by grinding up meat and bone and often include skin, hooves, beaks etc. The less said the better but you get the picture.
  • Our fruit and veg is field fresh and human grade – our fruit and veg comes from the same producers that supply human food production.
  • Our food is junk free – we don’t include cheap fillers like Soya, Wheat or Gluten that are hard for dogs to digest and have minimal nutritional benefit. We add no artificial colourings, no artificial taste enhancers, no artificial aromas and no preservatives.
  • We gently steam cook our ingredients just once – we don’t pre-process our food before cooking. Our ingredients are just chopped up and gently steam cooked to lock in the flavour and goodness. Good food should be that simple.

Are you saying we should as well!?

No. I’m not in any way writing this post to tell you that you should be eating our dog food or any dog food for that matter. It’s more about giving you the confidence that we we’ve spent a long time and a lot of hard work creating the best possible food we can for your dog. In short, we think if we’re telling you that it’s good enough to be fed to your dog it should be good enough for us to eat.

To finish up...

I mentioned earlier in the article the feedback we regularly receive from customers. Feedback is something we can’t get enough of. We love feedback. It allows us to make sure we give our customers (dogs and humans) the best possible product and experience. We built Miraculous Meals working closely with pet parents and feedback is at the core of how we work as a brand as are transparency and openness. So, if you have any feedback however big or small, good or bad, we want to hear it.

Feel free to drop me a line personally to share any thoughts you may have at ed@miraculousmeals.co.uk. I’m all ears! (Although it’s delicious I won’t try and convince you to eat our dog food, I promise!)
